Ok, lets address the first thing on everyone's mind (if you are new to Recovery) - Why is everyone telling me not to date for at least a year after I get in Recovery? 

As we all know, most people are going to ignore this, yet we all tell new people the same thing.  When we first begin on this new path, we are "raw".  Although it is likely that most of us will add in the complication of another person, if you can possibly not do this in a romantic way, and instead, make relationships in the way of support, it is best for you because you are likely, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YOUR LIFE, beginning to get to know YOU.  Many newly sober adults have never had sexual relations without booze or drugs.  We don't know how to do much without our liquid or pill form of courage.

While relearning just how to live, yes, it is better that you don't complicate your life with even more emotional baggage, but everything is your choice. 

For people who are single and in Recovery, dating can be complicated.  "When do I tell them about "me"?  How are they going to react when I tell them my history? Are they going to be "turned off" and will I be dissappointed when they see who I really am?"  These are just a few of the questions we ask ourselves when we begin to date in a world of Recovery.
